Ana Rita Gil has a PhD in Law from the Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, having obtained the classification of “Approved with Distinction and Praise by unanimity”, with a thesis on “The Derived Protection of Fundamental Immigration Rights”. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, with a final average of 16, and has a post-graduate degree in the Protection of Minors Law from the same university, with a final grade of “Very Good”.
She is currently a Guest Assistant Professor at the Nova University of Lisbon Law School and the Portuguese Catholic University.
She is also an Assistant Professor at the Ombudsman’s Office, particularly with regard to international cooperation and human rights.
She was an advisor to the Office of Judges of the Constitutional Court from 2010 to 2018.
She has published several papers in Portuguese and foreign Universities and several publications, mainly on Human Rights, Immigration and Refugee Law and Children’s Law. She has collaborated in several projects for the European Commission, through the consultants Milieu, Law and Policy Consulting, Lda., and Ramboll, as well as through academic networks such as Odysseus (academic network for legal studies on immigration and asylum in Europe) and the European Network on Free Movement of Workers. She is the national rapporteur for the European Citizenship Observatory, coordinated by EUDO, and a member of the OMNIA – Odysseus Monnet Network for Immigration and Asylum project.
