NOVA School of Law and NLP Establish Partnership to Enhance Legal Education in Innovation, Healthcare and Intellectual Property

NOVA School of Law and NLP – Sociedade de Advogados have signed a General Cooperation Agreement to strengthen the connection between academia and legal practice by developing academic, scientific and cultural initiatives.

The agreement includes organising joint seminars, workshops and other activities, and promoting internship and recruitment opportunities within the student community. NLP will also contribute to the Faculty’s teaching activities by participating in master’s degree courses.

As part of this collaboration, Joana Piriquito Santos, partner at NLP and signatory to the agreement, will join NOVA School of Law’s roster of Visiting Lecturers. Bringing her expertise in intellectual property, innovation and technology into the classroom, she will help bridge the gap between legal education and the contemporary challenges faced by professionals in these fields.

A Partnership Aligned with the Challenges of Health and Innovation

This partnership is particularly relevant in the context of the new Specialisation in Business and Health Law offered by NOVA School of Law as part of its Master’s in Law programme. The specialisation covers subjects including pharmaceutical industry regulation, biotechnology, biomedicine, and intellectual property in the healthcare sector.

Designed to address the emerging legal challenges facing the healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and life sciences sectors, the programme provides advanced training in areas of increasing importance to contemporary legal practice.

NLP’s expertise complements this academic offering particularly well. The law firm advises clients in various industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, offering specialised legal counsel on innovation, technology and intellectual property matters.

New Application Period

A new application period for the Specialisation in Business and Health Law will open shortly. Running from 18 to 23 August 2026, it will offer prospective students a new opportunity to access advanced legal training in the fields of healthcare and life sciences.

Pharmaceutical Law and Specialised Professional Training

NLP’s collaboration further strengthens NOVA School of Law’s dedication to specialised education in health, innovation, and life sciences.

In this context, particular emphasis should be given to the Pharmaceutical Law course, which is offered as part of the Master’s degree in Business and Health Law. Focusing on the key legal and regulatory challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry, the course offers valuable learning opportunities for lawyers, healthcare professionals, regulatory affairs specialists, and other professionals in related sectors.

It may also be taken independently of the master’s programme by applying for individual course units between 15 and 18 September 2026.

Neste contexto, destaca-se a unidade curricular Direito Farmacêutico, integrada no Mestrado em Direito Especialização em Direito Empresarial e da Saúde, que oferece uma abordagem aprofundada aos principais desafios jurídicos e regulatórios da indústria farmacêutica, constituindo uma oportunidade de formação particularmente relevante para juristas, profissionais do setor da saúde, responsáveis de assuntos regulatórios e outros profissionais que atuam em áreas relacionadas.

As candidaturas à frequência desta unidade curricular decorrem entre 15 a 18 de setembro 2026.

Para além de Direito Farmacêutico, a NOVA School of Law disponibiliza diversas unidades curriculares isoladas em áreas complementares, incluindo, entre outras, Life Sciences Law, Regulação e Riscos de Saúde Pública, Direito da Proteção Social e Direito da Contratação Pública.

A frequência de unidades curriculares isoladas permite a profissionais e outros/as interessados/as aprofundar conhecimentos em áreas específicas do Direito, beneficiando da qualidade científica e pedagógica de uma das mais internacionais faculdades de Direito do país.
