class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Jos\u00e9 Jo\u00e3o Abrantes, Retired Full Professor at NOVA School of Law<\/strong> and former President of the Constitutional Court, <strong>was awarded the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ by the President of the Republic, Ant\u00f3nio Jos\u00e9 Seguro<\/strong>, in a ceremony held in the Ambassadors&#8217; Room at Bel\u00e9m Palace in Lisbon.<\/p><p>During the ceremony, the Head of State recognised Professor Abrantes&#8217; contribution during a &#8220;s<em>ingular and challenging<\/em>&#8221; period in the life of the Constitutional Court, emphasising that <strong>this tribute honours his performance of duties with &#8220;<em>total dedication, institutional loyalty, and a profound sense of public service<\/em>&#8220;.<\/strong><\/p><p>Professor Jos\u00e9 Jo\u00e3o Abrantes recently stepped down as a judge and President of the Constitutional Court, a position he held after being elected as a judge of that body in 2020. <strong>Upon receiving the decoration, he expressed \u201c<em>great emotion<\/em>\u201d<\/strong> <strong>and a \u201c<em>heightened sense of responsibility<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>, emphasising his commitment <strong>to continuing to contribute to a \u201c<em><strong>freer, fai<\/strong>rer and more fraternal country<\/em>\u201d,<\/strong> in reference to the preamble of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-897116f elementor-widget elementor-widget-ekit_wb_28992\" data-id=\"897116f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"ekit_wb_28992.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"normal-titleh3 preto regular-text\">Academic and professional career<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0a4659 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0a4659\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Jos\u00e9 Jo\u00e3o Abrantes is a graduate and Master\u2019s degree holder from the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Bremen and an Aggregation in Law from NOVA School of Law. <strong>He has been a professor at the NOVA School of Law since 2000.<\/strong><\/p><p>A specialist in <strong>Labour Law<\/strong>, he is a member of several national and international scientific associations and networks. He is also the Portuguese national expert of the European Labour Law Network, which supports the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. He served as Vice-President of APODIT \u2014 the Portuguese Labour Law Association \u2014 for seven years.<\/p><p>Throughout his career, he has carried out extensive national and international work as a specialist and consultant in the field of labour law, particularly in matters of European and International Labour Law, providing consultancy and technical assistance to various ministries, including the Ministry of Labour, as well as other public institutions.<\/p><p>Jos\u00e9 Jo\u00e3o Abrantes is the author of a substantial body of work published in Portugal and abroad.
