The need for advanced academic training in insurance was widely felt and identified<\/strong> both by academics and representatives of the industry across Europe and the world.<\/p>\n

The Jean Monnet Module on EU Insurance Law: Challenges in the SDG Era (EUInsLSDG) aims at filling a double gap<\/strong>: by providing advanced training<\/strong> that prepares the next generation of top-qualified legal professionals in insurance, ready to enter the market equipped with the instruments to face the challenges of our time, as well as preparing early-stage researchers<\/strong>, by encouraging state-of-the-art academic research in this field in those areas where both the regulators and the regulated require research outputs that will help them substantiate future decisions.<\/p>\n

This module also tries to foster awareness of the insurance sector’s potential<\/strong> to contribute decisively towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Learning outcomes:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In this course, students will be able to explore the relationship between EU Insurance Law, SDGs and Human Rights through a series of talks delivered by experts. All attendants will be able to identify potential threats and opportunities for the SDGs and Human Rights in the insurance markets. They will also be ready to provide a quick response when exposed to these scenarios. In addition, all assistants will gain an understanding of how the very nature of an organization define the interaction between these three spheres (EU Insurance Law, SDGs and Human Rights). Hence, they will get the integrative vision that is needed to confront these issues from a human rights perspective.<\/p>\n

Teaching methods:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This module will be organized in nine different sessions. Different speakers with various backgrounds (professors, NGOs, insurance sector, etc) will go into depth regarding the interaction between a particular set of SDGs and the Insurance sector. Students will be asked to prepare in advance by going through the reading list provided. After the panel’s initial interventions, assistants would be required to provide their comments and ask questions. Each session will be moderated by one of the coordinators.<\/p>\n

Assessment methods:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A certificate of attendance will be available to all those present in at least seven sessions. All students who wish to be awarded a certificate of successful completion of the course will be assessed by means of a discussion paper and on the basis of their class participation. Topics will be chosen by students with the agreement of the coordinators of the module. A list of indicative topics will be provided upon enrolment.<\/p>\n
