Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission has announced the 2023 Portuguese and American recipients of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fulbright.pt\/fulbrighters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fulbright Portugal Awards<\/a>, which includes <strong>Professor Burke Griggs<\/strong>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washburn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washburn University<\/a>, who will join NOVA School of Law in September under the <a href=\"https:\/\/novalaw.unl.pt\/en\/fulbright-award-in-law-and-sustainability-nova-school-of-law\/\">Fulbright Grant on Law and Sustainability.<\/a><\/p><p>The grant was awarded in the context of the <a href=\"https:\/\/novalaw.unl.pt\/en\/nova-school-of-law-signs-an-unprecedented-protocol-with-the-fulbright-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protocol signed with the Fulbright Commission<\/a>, which assumed special relevance for being the first time that the Commission launched a programme focused on this theme.<\/p><p>This partnership allows American Professors and Researchers to come to NOVA School of Law to carry out teaching and research activities, for a period of four months, within the topic of Law and Sustainability.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-773dae4 elementor-hidden-desktop elementor-hidden-laptop His scholarship explores the historical, technical, and cultural aspects of natural resources law, especially water law. He has authored numerous scholarly articles and co-authors standard casebooks on water law and oil and gas law. <br \/><br \/>Previously, he represented the State of Kansas in federal and interstate water matters, most prominently Kansas v. Nebraska, an original action before the Supreme Court to enforce the Republican River Compact, and served as counsel of record for Kansas in the Kickapoo Tribe reserved water rights settlement. <br \/><br \/>Professor Griggs advises the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State on lithium-related matters in Latin America, and serves on the U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s Environmental Justice Working Group for the Midwest.
