The challenges of today’s technological society require interaction with various public and private organisations. This interaction must favour a collaborative attitude and the search for multidisciplinary partnerships that add value to the curricular approaches of NOVA School of Law.<\/strong><\/p>

The partnerships that we currently have, and those that may emerge in the future, will always reflect an attitude of collaboration and a diversity of fields and sectors. From law to banking, from technology to consumers, we seek to develop close relationships with all our partner organisations.<\/p>

Abreu & Associados<\/a> is one of the most prestigious law firms in Portugal<\/strong>, with recognised merits in the fields of environmental law and sustainability<\/strong>, where it has been a pioneer. For this reason, NOVA School of Law, seeking to adapt its teaching to the most current issues of legal debate in the field of the environment, has signed a protocol of cooperation with Abreu & Associados and its Knowledge Institute from October 2021<\/a>, which includes the teaching of a curricular unit by one of its associates and the financial contribution to the NOVA Green Lab Knowledge Centre<\/a>, namely through the creation of the Abreu Chair in ESG Impact<\/a>, attributed to Professor Lucila de Almeida<\/a>.<\/p>

The collaboration between NOVA School of Law and Abreu Advogados also includes the teaching of Interdisciplinary Legal Practice<\/strong> and, more recently, the protocol for the creation of \u00abMarket-oriented Master’s Degrees\u00bb<\/a>,<\/strong> in order to give Master’s students direct contact with practical legal issues and prepare them to respond to professional challenges and an increasingly demanding labour market. This avant-garde project also includes other partner organisations such as Novo Nordisk<\/a>, Lus\u00edadas<\/a>, Luz Sa\u00fade<\/a> and Unbabel<\/a>, as well as the following companies: Morais Leit\u00e3o, Galv\u00e3o Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados<\/strong> and VdA, Vieira de Almeida Sociedade de Advogados.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Morais Leit\u00e3o, Galv\u00e3o Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados<\/a> is a law firm with long experience and a high reputation in the Portuguese and international market<\/strong>, working in all areas of law and advising a wide range of business sectors.<\/p>

The partnership with NOVA School of Law dates to 2002 – with the aim of teaching the subject of Interdisciplinary Legal Practice<\/strong>, which continues to this day – and has intensified continuously since then. More recently, in 2022, Morais Leit\u00e3o joined the project to create the<\/strong> NOVA Knowledge Centre for Legal Argumentation (NOVA Argumentation)<\/a>, a knowledge centre integrated into the NOVA School of Law and dedicated to research and training in the field of legal argumentation, coordinated by Professor Lu\u00eds Duarte d’Almeida<\/a>.<\/p>

The creation of NOVA Argumentation represents a particularly happy partnership between Morais Leit\u00e3o and NOVA School of Law, realising the synergy that should exist between the daily practice of law by law firms and universities, developing their theory for the benefit of us all. In our work, due to the speed of these new times, we often come up with innovative, pioneering answers. But this is no substitute for the necessary reflection and consolidation of legal thought that this new Centre will now complete, especially given the brilliant CV of its first Director. PLMJ<\/a> stands out on the national scene as one of the law firms with the largest volume of business,<\/strong> advising multinational companies and state institutions. Since 2002, it has been a key partner of NOVA School of Law in the professional integration of its graduates.<\/strong><\/p>

The initial agreement was for the teaching of Interdisciplinary Legal Practice<\/strong> – which continues to this day – and has been strengthened over the years to include support for research, with particular emphasis on the NOVA Knowledge Centre for Business, Human Rights and the Environment<\/a>, coordinated by Professor Claire Bright<\/a>, in the context of the umbilical relationship between the Faculty and the legal labour market.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

VdA, Vieira de Almeida Sociedade de Advogados<\/a> is a leading international law firm with over 40 years of history<\/strong>, recognised for its innovative approach to corporate legal services.<\/p>

In 2021, it partnered with NOVA School of Law to create WhatNext.Law<\/a>, a research centre that brings together legal professionals, academics, and private and public entities to explore the most important legal issues of the future<\/strong>, with the aim of shaping discussion and research, developing skills and disseminating knowledge on current and future legal, economic and social challenges. Google<\/a> is one of the five largest technology companies in the world<\/strong> and is seeking to diversify its activities into areas such as e-commerce, cloud management and artificial intelligence.<\/p>

The partnership with NOVA School of Law is linked to the need to combine technological law with business. In this sense, the cooperation protocol signed in August 2021<\/strong> is characterised by the teaching of a curricular unit in the field of law and technology<\/strong>, which also includes the creation of the Google Chair for Data Governance<\/a>, awarded to Professor Gra\u00e7a Canto Moniz<\/a>, and the creation of a network with various researchers, including, from NOVA School of Law, Professor Fabrizio Esposit<\/a>o and Professor Athina Sachoulidou<\/strong>.<\/p>

The ‘Google Data Governance Chair’ brings together four universities from Southern Europe<\/strong>: Spain’s CEU San Pablo University<\/a>, Italy’s RomaTre University<\/a>, Greece’s National and Kapodistrian University<\/a> of Athens and Portugal’s NOVA School of Law<\/strong>. The project’s Scientific Committee is chaired by Professor Jos\u00e9 Lu\u00eds Pi\u00f1ar Ma\u00f1as<\/strong> (San Pablo) and includes Professors Georgios Yannopoulos<\/strong> (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), Gra\u00e7a Canto Moniz<\/strong> (NOVA School of Law) and Vincenzo Zeno Zencovich<\/strong> (RomaTre).<\/p>

Its partnership with NOVA School of Law goes back a long way, in terms of employability, funding and patronage<\/strong>, and is part of a long-term institutional collaboration. NOVA School of Law is at the forefront of integrating academia and the business world with the launch of an innovative research model for Master’s theses.<\/strong><\/p>

This pioneering project, the first of its kind in Portugal<\/strong>, involves close collaboration with partner organisations, both public and private, from the national and international market.<\/strong> The research topics, proposed by the partners and focused on new technologies, are developed by the students with the support of elements from the partners and scientific guidance from NOVA School of Law lecturers.<\/p>

This model allows for a rich and immersive experience, offering students a practical and applied view of law in a real-world context.<\/strong><\/p>
