Marta Carmo is currently Advisor to the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, having been a lawyer at Banco BPI, S.A., and previously at RPBA law firm.
She is a PhD candidate at NOVA School of Law, and she is preparing her dissertation under the supervision of Professors Helena Pereira de Melo and Rita Calçada Pires (dissertation suspended since April 2024 due to the functions currently performed in the Cabinet of Secretary of State for Tax Affairs).
She is a researcher at CEDIS and the NOVA Tax Research Lab and conducts her research in the area of Tax Law and Human Rights, focusing specially on taxpayers’ fundamental rights.
She holds a degree in Law from NOVA School of Law and a Master in Law and Management from NOVA School of Law and NOVA School of Business and Economics.
She was the winner of the Paula Escarameia Prize (2011/2012) in the area of Public International Law for her report on “Modern Maritime Piracy”, following which, together with a Fulbright grant, she completed an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University, School of Law.
