Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate
Since November 2021, the NOVA School of Law, Abreu Advogados, and Instituto de Conhecimento da Abreu have had a protocol in place establishing mutual cooperation for the development of law and sustainability topics in the pedagogical and research programmes at NOVA School of Law. For this purpose, it established the Abreu Chair, which involves the coordination of the NOVA Green Lab knowledge centre, whose research, training, and dissemination activities are partially financed by the Knowledge Institute of Abreu Advogados.
From October 2022 to March 2025, the NOVA School of Law hosted the “Abreu Chair in ESG Impact” as an ad personam chair, supporting the hiring of a professor to coordinate teaching and research activities in the areas of sustainability, particularly in environmental and energy law.
Since April 2025, following the Award of FCT tenure funds to the Abreu-NOVA School of Law for co-finance of a non-academic Chair, the Abreu Chair was renewed as the «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate», supporting the hiring of a tenured Associate Professor through an international open competition.
The «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate» is also responsible for the formation of students attending the courses of Environmental law; Energy law; Energy, Climate and Just Transition; and Regulation & Environmental Risk at NOVA School of Law. It is also involved in a course on Introduction to Environmental Law at NOVA FCT. The activities of the «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate» are carried out with complete academic freedom.
The «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate» is hold by Professor Lucila de Almeida.
The «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate» is an ad personam chair resulting from the collaboration agreement signed between the Knowledge Institute of Abreu Advogados and NOVA School of Law.
The «Chair» aims to reinforce the internationalization of the NOVA School of Law by supporting the hiring of a professor to coordinate teaching and research activities in the areas of sustainability, particularly in the areas of environmental and energy law.
The activities of the «Abreu Chair in ESG, Energy and Climate» consist of the coordination of the knowledge centre NOVA Green Lab, whose research, training and dissemination activities are partially financed by the Knowledge Institute of Abreu Advogados. These activities are carried out with full academic freedom.

This «Chair» was awarded to Professor Lucila de Almeida.
