Cátia Moreira de Carvalho
Guest Professor
Cátia Moreira de Carvalho was a researcher in the DRIVE project at Leiden University and the NEW ABC project at the University of Porto.
She is currently an integrated researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, a researcher at the School of Law and Governance at Dublin City University, and a visiting researcher at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University.
Cátia holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Porto (2017-2022), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, during which she investigated some of the factors explaining the absence of violent extremism within the context of Islamic-inspired terrorism in Portugal. During her PhD project, Cátia was a visiting fellow at the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge (2020).
Her research interests focus on violent extremism, radicalization processes, foreign fighters, disinformation, and forced migrations. Her work has been funded by the European Commission, the Foundation for Science and Technology, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Public Safety Canada. Additionally, she is a member of ERCOR – European Researcher Community on Radicalisation, and the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation.
