PhD

Gender Studies

Presentation

The PhD in Gender Studies is the result of an association between NOVA University Lisbon, through the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) and NOVA School of Law, and the University of Lisbon, through the ISCSP-UL.

The PhD programme’s mission is to contribute to the affirmation of Gender Studies as an autonomous scientific area of research and advanced training, preparing researchers in this field and professionals, senior managers and leaders capable of critically and reflexively analysing issues related to gender issues and intervening in them in the most different sectors and social and political activities. It provides solid advanced training, preparing researchers to produce high-quality knowledge in the innovative field of Gender Studies.

It is the first and only PhD in Gender Studies in Portugal, with a highly qualified teaching staff whose scientific and academic output is recognised nationally and internationally. It provides an academic environment of excellence, with the presence of foreign students.

Classes will be held in Lisbon, in rotation at ISCSP-ULisboa, NOVA FCSH and NOVA School of Law.

In the 2024/25 academic year, the host institution is ISCSP – Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas of the University of Lisbon.
