Conference | AI Robotics in Healthcare: A challenge for law and tech?

17 and 18 April

On the 17 and 18 April 2023, NOVA School of Law and VdA – Vieira de Almeida will receive the conference «AI Robotics in Healthcare: A Challenge for Law and Tech?». The event results from the joint organization of WhatNext.Law and the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law (NRCCL), from the University of Oslo.

The conference will deal with several topics related to the use of robotics based on artificial intelligence in the health domain, including data protection, liability (civil and criminal) for harm caused, roboethics, digital governance, medical deontology, IP rights, the fundamental right to health, amongst many other topics. Students from all levels are invited to submit their abstracts.

The conference will also mark the official launching of the FutureHealth, the research branch of WhatNext.Law focused on new technologies and innovation in the health domain.

Programme

17 April

On April 17 we will count with the participation of some of the greatest experts, national and international, in the fields of medical law and digital law. In this session, speakers will share their insights on the use of ‘intelligent robots’ – AI-based robotics – in healthcare, namely issues such as the European legal framework on robotics and artificial intelligence, liability for damages and the risks of automation.

This sessions will be held in English and will take place between 9am and 5pm, at NOVA School of Law, Campolide Campus (Lisbon), Room 7.

18 April

On April 18, a brainstorming session will take place between the main market players on the development and production of medical devices, as well as on healthcare delivery. The aim of this session will be to understand how far these new technologies have been introduced in the Portuguese scenario and what are the main challenges they are facing.

 This session will take place between 9am and 12pm, at the António de Magalhães Cardoso Auditorium, VdA, in English.
